Role & Department
Canon EMEA is looking for a EMEA Logistics Trade Legal Specialist in the Supply Chain department. Due to the evolving external environment, there is an increasing need to manage Trade Compliance, particularly in the areas of Security Trade Control and Customs. As the global political and trade landscape becomes more unpredictable and complex, it is crucial for Canon to mitigate risks arising from these changes. Considering the scale and diversity of our business, the geopolitical climate (e.g., trade wars, regional conflicts), and the need for business continuity, this expertise is essential to ensure compliance, avoid penalties, and protect our reputation.
This position is part of the EMEA Trade Compliance team within the Logistics Business Operations department, which is a component of Canon Europa's Supply Chain. The team is also responsible for the daily operational tasks related to exporting dual use goods and the customs classification of new parts and products, as well as the periodic review of the database in response to legislative changes.

As an EMEA Logistics Trade Legal Specialist you will be responsible for:

  • Serve as the first point of contact for HS codes, classification questions, and duty management.
  • Manage daily product classification and regularly review classifications.
  • Advise Canon Product Teams on correct item data setup to ensure appropriate HS code selection.
  • Handle and follow up on 3PL duty declarations for payment.
  • Maintain and analyze country duty data.
  • Manage Country of Origin data and EUR1, prepare legalizations, and oversee the digital Chamber of Commerce application.
  • Maintain Canon Europa’s AEO certification and other necessary customs licenses.
  • Provide support to other teams and departments within your area of responsibility, including related projects.
  • Ensure compliance with EMEA-wide customs and compliance regulations and laws, including EUDR and CBAM, and implement legal requirements.
  • Communicate with authorities, such as CDIU, to obtain export licenses for dual-use goods or BTI Binding Tariff Investigations for new items.
  • Monitor adherence to trade compliance requirements.
  • Implement appropriate safeguards, procedures, and controls.
  • Ensure continuous sanctions monitoring and clear roles and responsibilities.

What we ask

For this role, you will have:

  • Exceptional technical skills in customs and the ability to collaborate with internal and external partners.
  • The ability to perform in a fast-paced, dynamic, and diverse environment.
  • An excellent sense of teamwork.
  • Preferably extensive practical experience with customs and export compliance matters.
  • A good understanding of EU-Dual-Use and US-EAR regulations is preferred.
  • Fluency in both written and verbal English & Dutch; additional languages are a plus.

You will need

We are looking for someone who possesses strong communication and relationship-building skills across departments and organizational levels, has experience in implementing cross-functional processes and procedures, and demonstrates excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities. This individual should be adaptable to change, skilled in change management, and proficient in MS Office applications such as Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail, along with sharp analytical abilities to assess current processes and recommend improvements, are also essential.
