The purpose of this role is work as part of the Architecture Team to design, document and facilitate the implementation of the BDO application, technology and enterprise architectures through the various IT teams and technology partners. These IT Architectures must support the overall BDO business strategy. This role reports to the solutions and architecture manager. The primary responsibility of this role would be to own and help deliver the application and data strategy.




Work with application teams to define our vision and roadmaps for all application and data solutions.

Provide strategic influence across groups, projects and products to implement cost-effective technology solutions to solve complex business problems.

Engage in concept discussions, proposed technology solutions, to meet business objectives.

Engage with senior leadership and project stakeholders to articulate opportunities, costs, and risks associated with decisions made around the platform architecture and implementation.

Design and define application and data architectural solutions and oversee the implementations

Identify gaps in data governance and information management practices and orchestrate the elimination of those gaps, leading to higher data management maturity.

Assist with firm wide GDPR projects

Develop and implement conceptual, logical and physical data models to support GDPR

    • Work with fellow architects to create develop and implement data policies. 

Participate in the development and continuous improvement of:

    • application and data architectures that are aligned to the business strategies and direction
    • technology architectures that enable the application and data architecture
    • Development architectures that enable BDO IT to develop business solutions in the most efficient and effective manner adhering to the BDO IT Solution Design Principles.

Working with the change and communication function ensure that user training and user adoption is considered for all application solutions.

Stay abreast of developments in appropriate new technologies/services and lead the investigation / assessment of the suitability of these to BDO’s environment and business needs

Participate in the production of the annual technology roadmap, gaining endorsement of that plan from the IT Leadership Team

Develop people’s soft skills, such as communication and leadership, as well as technical skills and ensure team members feel valued, confident and motivated

Ensure that IT Architecture team members are active participants in teams formed to progress projects, business initiatives/aims etc

Ensure that IT Architecture is, and is recognised as, a valuable asset to BDO

Work with the business to ensure IT strategy is exploited to the benefit of the business

IT Governance:

    • ensure that agreed standards and working practices are followed

    • highlight any non-conformance with agreed standards and working practices with the solutions and architecture Manager

    • Promote an environment that encourages collaboration, team working and innovation both within the Architecture Team and across IT and other BDO teams

    • Act as an ambassador for Architecture and IT and deputise for the solutions and architecture Manager as requested

    • Relationship manager between agreed technology partners and BDO LLP and act a point of escalation between IT and the technology partner.




  • At least 2 years’ experience of working as an Application and Data Architect delivering successful migration/greenfield projects
  • Experience in defining application architectures for large organisations, and of demonstrating alignment between business objectives and the target application architecture. 
  • Proficient in designing, building and deploying infrastructure at a complex level
  • You will have an excellent understanding of technical design principals and processes
  • Demonstrate extensive experience in the IT industry with expertise in all areas of Application and Data solutions. Preferably with experience in professional services business applications include DMS and ERP solutions.
  • A broad understanding of the latest developments in technologies, industry specific issues, competitor and vendor activity and initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability in technology partner management practices including the ability to lead vendors/partners in defining architectures
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, including presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of IT industry trends, suppliers and products.
  • Good knowledge of BDO products and services advantageous
  • Drive the analysis, architecture, design, and development of data lakes, data warehouse and data products taking considerations on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Experience in defining and delivering Application Architectures including N-tier applications (web and mobile), Microservices, On-Premise, PaaS and SaaS 
  • Preferable - experience in API and service design and how to best expose application data and functionality to consumers 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal including active listening
  • Ability to identify and analyse alternative approaches to dealing with issues and problems
  • Use of different leadership styles to positively influence others
