Anglian Water supplies water to over four million domestic and commercial customers, so it’s crucial that we deliver clean, safe water efficiently and effectively. We undertake rigorous water-testing procedures; protect thousands of kilometres of rivers and wetland parks and work tirelessly to preserve biodiversity in the area.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Life Science Laboratory Technician at our modern Central Laboratory in Huntingdon. We’re looking for a person with a passion for Life Science, preferably with a background and interest in Aquatic Ecology. You’ll be a part of our wider Life Science Team providing Microbiology, Parasitology and Biology services, so there are development and cross-training opportunities.
Working in a time critical, process driven environment you’ll receive, analyse and report analytical data on water samples in accordance with the quality assurance and compliance procedures of the laboratory.
You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement, take on a variety of scientific challenges and gain an exciting array of experience as you meet them.
With a relevant scientific degree (Aquatic Biology is desirable) or equivalent, you’ll have both the technical understanding and passion for science to make this a great start to your career in which you'll receive full training.
Practical scientific skills in environmental, aquatic and population biology and specific skills in taxonomy, Algal Ecology and Biotic Indexing (WHPT) are desirable.
You ideally will have experience of following policies and procedures and working in a regulated laboratory with ISO 17025 UKAS accreditation.
Your daily duties will also include fieldwork in and around reservoirs, non-native invasive species monitoring, so attention and compliance to Health and Safety, Biosecurity and the ability to drive is a must.
There will be an expectation for you to work using your own initiative and take a common sense approach to tasks. You should also be adaptable and be able to prioritise work.
Flexibility is also crucial to this role as adjustment to sample number and variety may be required.
The successful applicant will be required to take part in rotas and standbys as required by the Business to maintain operational capabilities.
Interviews will take place on 8-11 October 2018.
If you are offered a job with us, you will be subject to the relevant/standard employment checks, including: your right to work in the UK, reference, driving licence and identity check. Depending on your role, you may also be subject to further pre-employment checks.
