Job ID #: REG8251JP
Business Unit: Regulation Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time
Job Category: Science Advertised Salary: Circa £19,000
Location: Huntingdon Closing Date: Feb 27, 2018

Anglian Water supplies to over four million domestic and commercial customers, so it’s crucial that we deliver clean, safe water efficiently and effectively. We undertake rigorous water-testing procedures; protect thousands of kilometres of rivers and wetland parks and work tirelessly to preserve biodiversity in the area.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Life Science Technician to join the team, working on a shift pattern.

Our Life Science Team are based in our Laboratories in Huntingdon and consist of Microbiology, Parasitology and Biology sections. The technicians work in a time critical, process driven environment in order to receive, analyse and report analytical data on water samples, in accordance with the quality assurance procedures of the laboratory.

As a Life Science Technician, you will become a crucial member of the team, working within the quality system, across the 3 sections ensuring a timely turnaround of results.

You’ll be involved in a range of activities within the laboratory. Your daily duties will include the analysis of a variety of water samples for the required regulatory compliance. Working alongside other technicians within the team you will communicate effectively with other areas of the business. You will also be involved in media preparation and equipment maintenance.

You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement, take on a variety of scientific challenges and gain an exciting array of experience as you meet them.

It is important that we maintain our water supplies at all times, there is therefore a requirement for the laboratory to operate every single day of the year, even Public Bank Holidays. You will work 10.5 hours per day, on a shift pattern of 4on/4 off.

This role will enable you to achieve Registered Technician, moving to Registered Scientist status with a relevant institution.

With a relevant degree (or equivalent) and an interest in life science, you’ll have both the technical understanding and passion for science to make this a great start to your career in which you'll receive full training.

You ideally will have experience of following policies and procedures and working in a regulated laboratory with ISO17025 accreditation.

There will be an expectation for you to work using your own initiative and take a common sense approach to tasks. You should also be adaptable and be able to prioritise work.

Flexibility is also crucial to this role as adjustment to sample number and variety may be required. Once trained you will be required to work a set shift pattern consisting of early and late shifts. There is also a requirement to be on-call, responding to operational incidents.

Due to the on-call requirement, there is a need for you to have a full driving licence. If successful in your application, the status of your driving licence will be checked.
