Job Purpose
The purpose of the role is to provide inspirational, proactive operational leadership to the Airside Operations Team, managing the team, including the Airside Operations Duty Managers, to deliver an effective and efficient Airside Operation. Ensuring compliant commercial solutions are developed and delivered to meet Airside business needs.

Ensuring that the aerodrome is safe to operate and compliant with regard to regulatory requirements including the European Aviation Safety Agency and the Civil Aviation Authority (specifically the Aerodrome Certification). Department for Transport, EU Ground Handling Directive, Environment Agency and Health & Safety Executive within a commercially effective context.

Principal Accountabilities

Ensuring all documentation required in support of the Aerodrome License is up to date and appropriate.

Ensuring all airside working practices reflect the requirements of the Aerodrome License and Airport Security

Plan and are in accordance with Airside’s supporting documentation.
Ensuring that non compliances are identified, reported through the Airside governance process and resolved.

Ensuring Airside policy is adequately projected through an up to date and appropriate set of OI’s (Operations Instructions)

Ensuring Airside has a comprehensive, up to date and tested suite of contingency plans that mitigate key business risks and deliver airside business objectives

Ensuring Airside’s safety performance is monitored through a suite of appropriate measures, key trends / issues identified and action plans to improve are delivered as required

Ensuring all recommendations from external / internal audits and investigations are implemented.

Works Approval - Ensuring the delivery of compliant works applications and an operationally effective programme of airside works to the Airside Operations Team Duty Managers (AODM’s) in accordance with the current DN’s.

Ensuring all new airside developments at Stansted meet EASA regulatory requirements.

Ensuring all new developments at Stansted are operationally effective and aligned with the Airside vision.

Ensure all new developments follow the Airside approvals and operational readiness processes.

Developing and leading the Airside Approvals process ensuring all new developments from master plan to detail design stage obtain approval through the Airside Assurance and Solution Team.

Acting as the escalatory route for unresolved development compliance and operational effectiveness issues.

The motivation, development and performance of staff through coaching, monitoring, appraisal, absence management, disciplinary procedures and code of conduct through effective communication with staff.

Engender a culture of continuous improvement throughout the team

Personal and team compliance with Health and Safety, Security and Environment/Sustainable Development Policies

Ensuring that working practices minimise risk to self, colleagues, customers, staff and the environment

Complying with all legal and statutory obligations applicable to the role

Ensuring that the activities required by the Safety, Security and Environment/Sustainable Development management systems are delivered throughout the areas of responsibility of the role

Ensuring that any systems and procedures introduced by the Company are effectively implemented and adhered to

Participating in projects and working parties and to carry out any other duties that may be outside the standard remit for the purpose of personal development, or as may be reasonably required by the Company

Supporting and Leading the Airside LBRT as and when required

Periodically leading level 3 inspections (in accordance with the 3 tier inspection process)

Facilitate statutory audit visits including CAA and HSE with regard to airfield compliance issues

Deputise for Head of Airside Operations in their absence.

Maintain effective communication on all safety related issues with internal and external users ensuring that information regarding aerodrome status and condition is promulgated

Role modelling communication skills and behaviours

Managing and delivering effective communication within the function

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

The following are desirable (unless stated as ‘essential’) for this role;

Holds a Full UK driving License (essential)
2 years Airside Operations experience
Good Airfield Topography
Airline & GH operations knowledge
Hold a valid Runway Airside Driving Permit
Airline and GH stakeholder engagement
Winter operations experience
Strong leadership and influencing skills to ensure stakeholders deliver outcomes that meet Airside regulatory and operational requirements
Good analytical and communication skills
Detailed knowledge and understanding of airside and aircraft ground and flight operations, and in particular aerodrome licensing and safeguarding activities
Experience of leading & developing teams
Experience of leading projects and project management processes
Experience of working with the large airside development, project and solutions processes
Degree educated or equivalent plus a proven track record of relevant experience
Occupational Health medical check to enable the successful post holder to obtain an Airside Manoeuvering area license.
Working knowledge of the IATA Airport Handling Manual (AHM)
Extensive demonstrable experience in nominated management job for an aerodrome licensee
Experienced in a senior management position within a service delivery organisation
Sound commercial and financial background
